Eyelid and Orbital Surgery
At the Denver Eye Clinic, Dr. James Giltner specializes in Oculoplastic surgery, or plastic and reconstructive surgery of the eye. This encompasses eye lid surgery to change the structure and function of the eyelids, the tear duct system, and the eye socket.
A wide array of surgical procedures are included in this area but among the most common conditions treated are loose, droopy, or baggy eyelids. Frequently, when the eyelid tissue becomes slack and fat tissue builds up, patients complain of loss of side or upper field of vision and heaviness of the lids. This procedure is known as a blepharoplasty. Excess skin and fat are removed thus lifting the eyelid and allowing the lid to resume a normal position. This is done as an out patient procedure with little or no discomfort to the patient.
Other eyelid procedures include ptosis repair, entropian or ectropian repair, and surgical repair of blocked tear ducts (dacryocystorhinostomy). In addition to mechanical aspects of eye lid surgeries, we specialize in surgical repair of the eyelid area for injuries. Cancer removal and reconstructive procedures are commonly performed by Dr. Giltner as well.
We also offer Botox Cosmetic as a minimally invasive, in office alternative to surgery. Patients experience only mild discomfort during the procedure and are able to resume normal activities immediately.
Dr. Giltner is one of Denver's leading Ophthalmologists in this area of surgical expertise. He is board certified in Oculoplastics and has done thousands of eyelid procedures.
