PA of Holliday and Emily Jackson. The Jackson family is originally
from Lincolnshire England and then settled in Ireland. Two generations
later, Dr. Jackson's direct ancestors migrated to the young colony
of Pennsylvania.
He suffered from diphtheria while practicing medicine in West
Chester, which left him partially paralyzed, with weakness in
the legs and eye movements. This was the beginning of his study
of Ophthalmology. During his long period of convalescence he studied
an 1864 publication of Ophthalmological innovations that had revolutionized
the field and created a distinct field of Ophthalmology. |
